Video Production; The Process
Video is a big part of my life, being a video editor has greatly impacted me in so many positive ways. The job is one that most would believe is simple but in actuality, is quite the opposite; it’s challenging and has made me stronger in my abilities and skill sets. From my many years of experience, producing a quality video is no task for the impatient. The process of sitting down with raw content and creating the final video can be a long, tedious and overwhelming process. Editing a video from start to finish is a lot like preparing for a race. With lots of patience and practice, you’ll have an end result that you’re proud of.
The total process, depending on the video, can take between a few days to a few weeks and potentially even a few months to complete. Different projects require different schedule lengths. Most videos however, don’t take longer than a week or two from shooting the footage to the finished video. When editing videos, I try to do the big chunks first like laying out the underlying script. Once thats done, I’ll go in and start laying out the footage thats going to be the main outline of the video and try to get a rough cut going. After that, I’ll start looking over additional footage to see what else would be good to show in the video such as b-roll or appropriate music so the audience can have a more content to further clarify the message and feel of the video. The audience’s point of view is something that should always be taken into account when creating a video; as an editor, the entire message can be controlled with simple commands and can easily become lost, muddled and distorted. Having a clear idea of what you want the final product to look like is very important when editing. The last steps that I usually take, are getting the finishing touches together such as animations, transitions, footage overlay, text additions, color and audio correcting and overall refining.
I am so lucky to be able to do what I love everyday and to be able to use my passion to help businesses grow their audience. I have met many business owners and community leaders through this opportunity and I am so grateful to be able to share my passion with them.
